About

In early 2021, we were approached by a local farming family whose farmstead, which had been passed down through the generations for over 100 years, was imminently due to be demolished to facilitate works on the HS2 scheme. The HS2 bill does not include a provision to replace buildings lost as a direct result of the construction of the line and as such, planning permission was required to replace the farmstead.

Following a lack of progress over several years, the Client instructed JCE to take the project over. The site, being within the Green Belt, AONB, the open countryside and in such close proximity to the Wendover Dean Viaduct made for a highly restrictive site. We initially sought permission for an agricultural building under Part 6 of the GDPO to establish development in the Client’s prefered location. Following this approval, we then sought permission for the full replacement of the farmstead, surrounding the initially approved barn. Following several months of negotiations, this was approved in late 2021.
